At a press conference with Republican leaders today, Congressman Boehner (R-West Chester) highlighted the impact the president’s broken promises are having on Ohioans and millions of families across the nation who have lost their health plans and are facing higher premiums next year. In light of the hardship many are facing, Boehner called on President Obama to make good on his pledge to allow Americans keep the health plans they like and can afford by supporting the Keep Your Health Plan Act
(H.R. 3350), legislation on the House floor this week that removes legal barriers preventing current plans from being offered. Following are Boehner’s remarks:
“You know, the president promised the American people that, ‘if you like your health care plan you can keep it.’ But for Richard in Springfield, Ohio, a town in my district, that’s not true. Richard received one of those notices that his plan was canceled, went to get new insurance and found out that his insurance cost was going to double.
“Now, you have millions of Americans who are going through this same experience. And as Fred just said, President Clinton yesterday made clear that he thought President Obama should keep his promise. The president has an opportunity over the next couple of weeks to keep his promise. We’re going to move a bill through the House this week. I’m optimistic that the Senate begins – starting to see some momentum over there to move a similar bill.
“This is not about politics. These are about real people in our districts that are being harmed by ObamaCare. It’s time to fix this law.”
