Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) released the following statement this morning regarding the Department of Labor’s unemployment report for August 2012:

“This report underscores President Obama’s failed promises to get our economy moving again.  The unemployment rate has been higher than eight percent for 43 consecutive months. Wages are stagnant, gas prices and health care costs are up, our national debt has surpassed $16 trillion, and millions of Americans remain out of work or underemployed. President Obama made a spirited pitch for the failed status quo this week, but the fact is: we can do better.

“The House voted to stop President Obama’s tax hike on small businesses, which threatens 700,000 jobs, and to begin crafting pro-growth tax reform that will help bring home some of the jobs that have gone overseas. We passed a bill to protect our troops by replacing the ‘sequester’ the White House demanded so the president wouldn’t have to deal with the debt limit again before the election. And we’ve passed more than 30 bills removing government barriers to job growth, and adopted a budget that would save and strengthen Medicare and other critical entitlement programs.

“The American people are still asking, ‘where are the jobs?’ We need a president and a Senate with the courage to let go of the failed ‘stimulus’-style policies of the past and work with Republicans on proven pro-growth measures to tackle our debt, address high prices, and create a better environment for jobs.”
