"We Can’t Wait” for Democrats to Work with Republicans on Jobs

Oct 24, 2011

Washington
-
The New York Times reports President Obama will try out a new slogan on his campaign-style road trip today: “we can’t wait.” With the unemployment rate still well above the eight percent promisedwe put together a short list of things struggling families and small businesses “can’t wait” for:

- “We Can’t Wait” for Senate Democrats to approve more than a dozen House-passed jobs bills: There are 15 House-passed jobs bills (and counting) awaiting action by the Democrat-led Senate – bills removing barriers to private-sector job growth like excessive government regulations, our unsustainable debt, the threat of tax hikes, and more. See them all here

- “We Can’t Wait” for President Obama to stop campaigning for more failed ‘stimulus’ spending and start working to find common ground: This week, the House will pass another bipartisan element of the president’s jobs plan: repealing the three percent withholding tax. But instead of working with House leaders on areas of common ground, the president is out pushing more of the same failed ‘stimulus’ spending and job-crushing tax hikes on small business job creators.

- “We Can’t Wait” for the Obama Administration to end the delays on job-creating American energy production: Job creators told a recent Natural Resources Committee hearing the Administration’s de factomoratorium on energy production is sending American jobs overseas. The House has passed American Energy Initiative legislation lifting the moratorium, expanding American energy production, and eliminating policies that drive up gas prices.

- “We Can’t Wait” for Senate Democrats to pass a budget: The House-passed budget would create a better environment for job creation by stopping Washington from spending money it doesn’t have, and strengthening and protecting our biggest entitlement programs from bankruptcy (preventing further downgrades that would threaten economic growth). It’s been more than 900 days since the Democrat-led Senate passed a budget – what Democrats once called the “most basic responsibility of governing.”

We also “can’t wait” for President Obama to get behind adopting a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) to the Constitution and repealing the 2010 health care law. Economists call the health care law a major barrier to job creation, and say a Balanced Budget Amendment would provide the kind of certainty needed for long-term economic growth. If the president is serious about creating jobs, “we can’t wait.”

There was another thing we couldn’t wait for: the bipartisan job-creating trade agreements with Columbia, Panama, and South Korea which were finally signed into law last week after endless delays by the Obama Administration. Congressman Boehner told National Review “this victory for the economy could have been won long ago if the administration hadn’t dragged its feet” for so long.

House leaders know “we can’t wait” to focus on jobs. That’s why Republicans outlined the Plan for America’s Job Creators in May, a Pledge to America-based plan focused on removing government barriers to private-sector job growth. And “we can’t wait” for Democrats to join us in eliminating excessive government regulations, stopping Washington from spending money it doesn’t have, and fixing the tax code for families and job creators.
