Boehner Statement on President Obama’s Press Conference

Sep 10, 2010

- Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement on President Obama’s press conference:

“With the American people still asking ‘where are the jobs?,’ both parties should work together to show the American people we’re listening and ready to act now to create jobs and get our economy moving again.  Half-hearted proposals and full-throated political attacks won’t end the uncertainty that is keeping small businesses from creating jobs.  Republicans have proposed a two-part plan to boost the economy now by freezing all tax rates for two years and cutting government spending to where it was before all the bailouts, government takeovers, and ‘stimulus’ spending sprees.  This is a plan Congress can and should act on this month.  If the president is serious about focusing on jobs, he should be willing to sit down with Republicans and discuss this new idea to get the economy moving again.

“Unfortunately, the appointment of Austan Goolsbee to be the president’s chief economist represents a commitment to more of the same failed ‘stimulus’ policies.  This president urgently needs people around him who’ve created jobs in the private sector and understand the challenges small businesses face, people who aren’t wed to the worn-out notion that our nation can simply spend its way back to prosperity. I hope that the president will take this into account as the reshuffling of his economic team continues.”

NOTE: Earlier this week, Leader Boehner set out Republicans’ plan to boost the economy now by cutting excessive government spending and stopping the looming tax hike on families and small businesses.
