Boehner: EPA Announcement “Paves the Way” for Dems’ Job-Killing National Energy Tax
“The Obama Administration’s agenda is becoming increasingly driven by liberal special interest groups at the expense of families and small businesses asking ‘where are the jobs?’”

Dec 7, 2009

Washington
- Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a new set of regulations designed to pave the way for Washington Democrats’ ‘cap-and-trade’ national energy tax:

“Today’s EPA announcement paves the way for Washington Democrats’ ‘cap-and-trade’ national energy tax, a bureaucratic nightmare that would make households, small businesses and family farms pay higher prices for electricity, gasoline, food and virtually every product made in America. One independent analysis determined that this national energy tax would cost our economy millions of jobs each year for the foreseeable future. What’s more, the timing of this announcement is yet another indication President Obama is preparing to unilaterally commit the United States to mandatory emissions cuts at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. If the President truly believes these job-killing mandates are in the nation’s best interests, he should slow down and first seek the advice and consent of the people’s elected representatives.

“Taken together, these troubling developments provide further evidence that the Obama Administration’s agenda is becoming increasingly driven by liberal special interest groups at the expense of families and small businesses asking ‘where are the jobs?’ House Republicans’ ‘all of the above’ energy strategy is a better solution that would create jobs, lower energy costs, and clean up our environment.”

NOTE: Late last week, House GOP leaders sent a letter to President Obama seeking assurances he will not commit the United States to a mandatory emissions reduction scheme at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen without congressional approval. The letter to President Obama – which is signed by GOP leaders and members of the House GOP American Energy Solutions Group – is available here.
