VIDEO: Congressman Boehner Welcomes Clark County to the Eighth District
Posted by Press Office on January 03, 2013

Today, Congressman Boehner posted the following message thanking the people of Clark County for the opportunity to serve as their representative in the House and welcomed them to the Eighth District community.

In the message, Boehner encouraged constituents to be a part of the legislative process by writing, calling, attending Open Door sessions, and reaching out through social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter.  He remarked, “We will not always agree on the issues but I can assure you of this: I will always listen to your concerns and your ideas.”

If you didn’t catch Congressman Boehner’s remarks at today’s Opening Session, please take a minute to read here.

“To the newest constituents of the Eighth District of Ohio, the people of Clark County, please let me welcome you and thank you for the opportunity to serve as your representative in the House of Representatives.

“The people of the Eighth District have always been opinionated, well-educated on the issues, and active in the process.  And having gotten to know many of you in the past year, I can say with confidence: you’ll fit right in.

“As your Congressman, I encourage you to be a part of the legislative process by writing in, calling, and sharing your opinions on our website, facebook page, or twitter feed.  We will not always agree on the issues but I can assure you of this: I’ll always listen to your concerns and your ideas.

“In addition to writing into our office or giving us a call, my office hosts weekly ‘Open Door’ sessions where you can meet face-to-face with one of my staff who can help you with constituent services and pass along your opinions to me in Washington.

“Learn more about how you can regularly be involved and informed on the legislation and activity in the House by visiting JohnBoehner.House.Gov.

“I hope that we’ll hear from you soon and thanks for listening.”

I encourage everyone to read Joseph Stiglitz's book, The Price of Inequality: How Today's Divided Society Endangers Our Future. Chapter one will not please most Rep.. However most Dem. will not be happy with comments about Clinton or Obama's terms in office. I hope you will read the whole book and keeps its content in mind as you look at the next two years in office.

We welcome you. I hope you can match Dave Hobson. The Ways & Means Chairmans remarks need clarity. A flat tax shifts taxes down on all. I might afford a 4WD Lincoln but the sales tax on a Rolls is something else. Why should I pay the same amount of tax when those better off can so much easier pay more? Make more incomes subject to Social Security. Remove tax deferment for future income when adjusted out before "gross adjusted income" is greater than $500K/yr. Get rid of 501 (c) 4's. Put all (c) 4's in the tax stream. Now that you have back some of the $5T that when out, use it to pay down debt. Go get more of the $5T that went out.Build a higher common ground in the middle.

This afternoon we learned through an IRS conference call and a corresponding news release that the IRS will delay the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on January 30 instead of on January 22. They cited the January tax law changes made by Congress under the American Tax Relief Act as a cause for the delay. Thank you Congress for the delay in getting my refund!!!!!

I do not live in either your district or your state, but you are the leader of the house so I hope that you will still read my e-mail. I know that the republicans have the proper agenda to put us on the track to fiscal sanity, but unfortunately our President is not at all (in my opinion) on the same track nor does he have the same mind set. I truely believe that his agenda is much worse for this country! We all have the same fears, that we may not get the votes in the house and the senate in 2014. One of the problems that I can definately see is that we need to have members of the house and senate get as much time as possible to be on the radio, tv, and townhall meetings in order to talk to the American people, we do not see or hear enough from any of you, we should be screaming at the to of our lungs about all of the bills that are on the floor of the senate and Harry Reid has tabled all of them not allowing even an up or down vote to put them on the floor to be debated..Why is nobody screaming about this? Unfortunately I believe that most of the people who votes doesn't really know very much about how our system works, so we need as much airtime to explain some of the bills that have been passed through the house, which are just sitting on Mr. Reids desk. I am not all that smart but as I see it we have two options as to what we can do about the sequestration. 1) As much as we don't like it I believe that this is the best one, we should put the decision to make the cuts soley in the hands of the President, yes there will be taxes and cuts that we don't need to cut but it will be all his, therefore we may have a chance of getting the votes in 2014, also he has been so guarded by his people tat maybe it is time that the people see him for what he is, the buck will stop with him, 2) If we do not go with number 1 we allow the sequestration to go through, meanwhile we will be putting him on the defensive whit the house an senators that are republican by being in the public constantly so he will be on the defensive, We should have some of our elected officials out campaining just like he is, at least it will give us a chance to be heard by more people. I know that you are a very busy man and how valuable your time is so I definately thank you for reading my e-mail. Right now the most important thing that we can do is to win the election, Otherwise all of the good that we want to for this country may be lost. Thamk you again, Lynn Wentworth

Mr Boehner: Where have you been? Are you able to turn your TV on, do you google, do you tweet and oh! Yes are you able to hear ? You are going around saying where is President Obama's plan? That is why I mentioned all of the above. The President has given his plan on all of the above mentioned, this makes you look quite bad. To me it seems as if you have absolutely no comprehension ability Where have you been? Are you alright and I mean mentally. You don't sound good at all. It's like you are out of it. Just out of touch with reality.

Mr. Boehner, Please make the time to read this aloud on the floor to all the members, and if everyone can honestly make time to think about this message, and still leave with a clear conscience, without offering up this move and acting on it in some way, I, and your voters will be truly broken hearted. Now lets get to the guts of this issue..spending. Stop taking from the poorest to benefit the rich! The plan to tax the richest was pushed aside. Take a good look at every elected official that was put there by we the people, that are being focused on and depended on to take the brunt of these budget cuts. If you are all there for the benefit of the country her people, lets consider, for a moment, on the payroll budget of the bureaucrats. A simple 1/2% cut in pay and benefits on all of those at the top, in your presence daily, in the White House, east and west wing, senate, house, executive and judicial, should be the first place to start making the cuts. Remember the Trickle Down issue? Well, Do it, start now. Can each of you that are supposed to be there to represent, help the country and the people, and not first, every time start butchering the poorest and the most necessary finances and programs in this country; If you bureaucrats at the helm of the purse strings of the country, really meant what you all said when you were running for office, then you all tighten your belts first, because the people that voted for you are already starving, freezing and dying under your watch, more than ever before. Get you heads out of the sand and THINK with your hearts and minds about where the cuts should logically begin.

dear speaker boehner, I am writing you from chardon ohio. It s truly becoming clear that obama is not very interested in serving the people of the united states of america. It seems that he has a very strategic agenda to push his socialistic even seemingly communistic views. I only want to remind and encourage you... It does not matter how many rep/dems hold seats. It does not matter... truthfully. Remember King David, and how his enemies were numerous and his army small, and the many victories he had, not obviously because of the size of his army but because the greatness of OUR GOD! It is more important to stand up for truth than to try and appease an evil ruler. It is more important to stand up for rightousness then to negotiate a deal with evil. I beleive the Lord when in His word he says that once darkness is exposed, it is no longer darkness yet will be consumed by light. I believe God's word when it says the sin of a nation will bring reproach but the righotus acts of a nation will bring prosperity. All in all Speaker, be courageous, fight the good fight of faith, we know that truth prevails in the end. It is my political view that everything Obama purposes to do should recieve a very Loud "NO" from our represenitives. This man in my view, in many ways, has broken the oath of office, he has mingled himself with so many harlotries .... clearly any man or woman of God could see this. It is a woe to call evil good and good evil. Speaker - please continue to fight the good fight of faith as the Lord has called upon you to do. God bless you richly in Christ Jesus - Kim Smith

Please vote no on this internet sales tax bill. We are a small Mom & Pop internet book store that sales mostly on Amazon.com. This is going to be unfairly burdensome to small business owners. I am 100% against this. If the Feds. would like to make a flat rate internet tax payable to the IRS I could work with that, but keeping track of every state and each of their respective sales taxes is unfair. Thank You Steve Estep
