More of the Same: Democrat Calls for “New Taxes” That Would Raise Gas Prices, Destroy Jobs
Think you’re already paying too much for a gallon of gas? Some Democrats in Congress don’t. While Republicans are working on a bill to expand American energy production to create new jobs, address high gas prices, and help pay for improvements to our roads and bridges, Democrats are calling for more of the same: tax hikes.
The Hill reports that Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA) wants “new taxes” on American energy companies that the non-partisan Congressional Research Service says would “make oil and natural gas more expensive” for families and small businesses, and “may have the effect of decreasing exploration, development, and production.” And Rep. Capps isn’t alone.
The Examiner says Rep. Mark Critz (D-PA) told his constituents “the federal government should increase the gas tax,” which “would seem likely to increase the price of gas significantly.” The ranking Democrat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV), has also extolled the idea of “raising the gas tax” on American consumers.
The American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act (H.R. 7) takes a very different approach. Instead of destroying jobs by raising taxes, H.R. 7 removes barriers to energy production to create more than a million jobs, and uses the revenue to help pay for repairs to America’s roads and bridges. And instead of raising gas prices, H.R. 7 will help address them by expanding the supply of American-made energy.
