Keystone Clock is Ticking As POTUS Delays Action on Job-Creating Energy Pipeline

The House Energy & Commerce Committee has released a new online clock to draw attention to President Obama’s ongoing delay of the bipartisan Keystone XL energy pipeline. It’s been 12 days since the president signed legislation requiring within 60 days a decision on the pipeline, which would help create thousands of new jobs. And it’s been three years since the project was first submitted for approval. “Why are we still waiting for the creation of thousands of jobs?” asked Rep. Lee Terry (R-NE) – especially when, asChairman Fred Upton (R-MI) pointed out, “Republicans and Democrats alike agree this is a win-win for America.”

In fact, there is broad bipartisan support in both the House and Senate for Keystone. Forty-seven House Democrats joined Republicans in supporting legislation (H.R. 1938) requiring a speedy decision on the pipeline. Montana’s Democratic Senators both support Keystone because it will help put Americans back to work. And a group of House Democrats wrote a letter to President Obama saying the project will “create 20,000 direct jobs” and “spur the creation of 118,000 spin-off jobs.”

“You want to talk about shovel-ready projects,” said Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR), Keystone is “one that’s shovel-ready.”

“President Obama says ‘we can’t wait’ to act on jobs,” said Congressman Boehner, and yet that’s exactly what his indecision on the Keystone energy project has out-of-work Americans doing: waiting. After three years of reviews, reports, and delays, the president only has 48 more days to make a decision on this job-creating energy project –how much longer will he keep the American people waiting?

    We can't expect the president or his administration to "create" jobs. We have to protect jobs in America. We have to make the atmosphere right for growing small businesses and we have to stop putting all these fees on them–not just the federal government, but the state, city and county levels as well.The Energy Initiative is important...but how much money is it bringing into the U.S.? How much is it costing us? The federal government cannot afford to subsidize alternative energy right now but we need U.S. oil to make and keep as much profit on U.S. soil and in U.S. bank accounts as is possible.
